Anxiety is a state of apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from anticipation of a realistic or fantasized threatening event or situation, often impairing physical and psychological functioning, in others words anxiety takes place when we behave or act in an apprehensive manner. Many people suffer from this issue without even realizing it, living their life feeling as if they are living their life on the edge.

Some signs that you may suffer from anxiety would be:
  • Nervousness
  • Overthinking
  • Chest pains
  • Headaches
  • Sleep problems
  • Dizziness
  • Upset stomach and,
  • Fear of impending doom
A lot of the times when our anxiety kicks in we start to panic, not being able to calm ourselves causing the stress or the episode to be worse also causing the attack to escalate way faster, so here are 5 easy steps to calm your anxiety anytime or anywhere you are.
  1. Acknowledge 5 things you can see: a spot on the floor, roof, bed, kitchen etc.
  2. Acknowledge 4 things you can feel: ground yourself on something soft, something hard, something course or something thick.
  3. Acknowledge 3 things you can hear; listen to everything around you, birds, water running, wind blowing.
  4. Acknowledge 2 things you can smell: a candle, detergent on the sheets etc.
  5. Acknowledge 1 thing you can taste, food, lip chap etc.

Once you have acknowledged these 5 things this will bring you more at ease with your surroundings and more aware of your senses and what's around you, relieving the anxiety.

The reason anxiety occurs in most of our body's is due to a chemical imbalance that causes us to worry about what's going to happen next or worried about the things around us, always being unsure of what’s going to happen and we never feel in control of our life or our bodies, this is why this technique has been such a huge success for so many people that suffer from such a struggling mental health issue. This technique can work anywhere, at anytime of the day which is also why it’s such a great technique especially for people working or being busy everyday.

Take a look around at all the things going on in your life, whether it’s a situation or people you're surrounding yourself with to see how you can eliminate some of the stress that could be taking part in the heightened anxiety levels you may be experiencing.

Anxiety takes place when we act in an apprehensive manner. Start by removing all the excess stress that could be taking a toll on your life and using this effective coping mechanism by trying these 5 steps to relive anxiety. With all of these techniques to help relieve some of your anxiety you should be able to live through your day as you were once able to without feeling as if you are living on the edge.
