Being Homeless
There was a sense of mystery for me in terms of what was that final straw that broke the camel's back when speaking of my homelessness. Leading up to the issue was without doubt- directly in relation to my years long drinking problem. I am indeed an alcoholic, now in recovery some 6+ years this was tantamount to how I became homeless.

All In A Day's Work
On any given day, back in the days of what I shall refer to as 'normalcy', this is what I do. As one can imagine, today the likelihood of being able to cater any event, large or small, is non-existent to quite possibly- not possible. Do not misunderstand, with restrictions lessened a wee tad as of late, we are free to do so up to a maximum of 50 people. As long as all protocols are in place we are more than willing to get right back into the thick of things.

Forevermore Abstinent...
So I bet you're asking yourself right now, 'What does a bunch of birds (above) have to do with sobriety?' The answer to this conundrum would be, absolutely nothing- on the surface that is. But in reality, recovering addicts are much like a flock of birds insomuch as they tend to congregate in places to talk about their respective addictions. That's about where the comparison ends from the birds' perspective anyway. I mean it's not like these birds are discussing what they did to make an ass of themselves last night, or how many of their bird friends they pissed off or made uncomfortable because of their use of illegal narcotics or perfectly legal alcohol...the birds have better things to do I'm sure. Nests to build, eggs to warm and the like...

The Best Damn Beef Lasagna
Yup, that's my dinner... Looks ooey, gooey delicious eh? Well first I need to tell you a little secret before I give out this recipe that I have been modifying and varying for oh so many years now. Originally it was my mothers recipe and I have added and taken away over the many years I have been making this at home... the little secret really isn't a secret at all if you know me. That being I am a Certified Journeyman Chef by trade. Therefore the recipe that follows, well the ingredient list, or measurements rather, may be a bit stark.

Is Tourism A Four Letter Word?
There is an eerie calm in the city of Victoria. Today being Victoria Day, the grounds of the Legislature pictured above would by this time be full of various high school bands from around the Pacific Northwest performing for the better part of the day right up there on those well weathered steps that have seen the likes of many a protest over the 100 + years of their existence. Unfortunately today, they shall remain silent. Victoria and it's namesake Victoria Day parade all but cancelled long ago. Really a Victoria tradition and the largest such parade in the country with typically upwards of 100 various bands. They come from the likes of Alberta and BC of course, but also Washington State, Oregon, and all the way down to Southern California for the weekend here.

Where Have All The Flowers Gone?
As with every other person on the planet, the last eight weeks or so, (at least by my count anyway) we have been faced with a rather unprecedented event in our lifetimes. Sure a similar occurrence took place in the early 20th century also of a worldwide nature, yet really to equate the two as the same thing would be ridiculous. The situations were very different indeed.

The 'New Normal?'
I was watching the latest news broadcast from Parliament Hill (I think that's what it's called) the other day. You know, the place where our illustrious leader, The Honourable Justin Trudeau does his daily Covid 19 broadcast for all to wallow and whine about. The thing about this broadcast that got me were the phrases, 'The New Normal', and that of...' This is going to last some more weeks?'

Through The Mind's Eye...
There are days when, for some reason, I feel out of sorts. Not sick or ill, just not myself. Some years ago, I apparently suffered from depression, so I am acutely aware of what that particular experience is all about. This time however, I could not place a finger on what it truly was that was bothering me, so I decided that having been doing this internal work for some fourteen months now, I knew how to explore this further.
