As I was growing up I constantly saw the commercials on TV about starving children, found food drives on every corner, or noticed that soup kitchens were desperately searching for volunteers. I knew that world hunger was a real issue and I felt genuine sympathy for those who were suffering, but I never thought too much about the importance of volunteer work because I was stuck in my fortunate and very comfortable lifestyle. There was always that fear of the unknown when I thought of volunteer work and I let those hesitations block my view of an ugly side of this world, as well as the opportunities I had to help.

For All You Crime Geeks
I have been obsessed with crime related entertainment for as long as I can remember. I count down the days until a new serial killer movie comes out, my YouTube history is filled with Crime Watch Daily episodes, and I binge watched Dexter in a ridiculously short amount of time. I chose a crime scene investigation major and can pop off with the most random crime facts, yet I can’t remember where I left my phone most of the time. I don’t really understand where the fascination came from or why all of the criminal justice work is so easy for me, but I do know that I’m absolutely obsessed. In the past year I have been super into true crime podcasts. I think it is fascinating that you listen to these criminal justice experts/nerds and are able to see the story playing out in your head. I have compiled a list of my all time favorite podcasts for all of you true crime geeks just like me.

Showcasing School Shooters
Mass shootings have unfortunately become a tragic, but normalized part of our society. Although mass shootings only make up a small portion of the total gun crimes in this country, they only continue to rise in numbers with each attack becoming more brutal than the last. We are all completely aware of the pain that these tragedies can bring to our communities, and yet, they continue to happen. The stories pass through the news channels so quickly, replaced with the new horror story while the last fades away into a bad memory for our country. There are no opportunities for new reform from our legislators, despite the constant push from the citizens that want change. These attacks of terrorism have become something that we simply acknowledge, move on from, and wait for the next inevitable occurrence.

Beyond the Bipolar
Bipolar disorder is a condition that includes episodes of mood swings ranging from severe depressive lows to manic high points. The goal for people that suffer with this disorder is to find their middle ground between the two extremes and hold on tight to this comfortable feeling for as long as possible. Accomplishing this is extremely difficult and takes a lot of perseverance and positivity (even if you have to fake it sometimes).

Finding Inspiration After Losing "The One"
Romantic relationships are one of the most important connections we experience as individuals. Every aspect of a relationship can teach us new lessons and make us feel like we are a part of something greater than ourselves. Happy relationships can provide us with amazing adventures and take us to places we may never have seen. We are able to build a bond with another person that is intimate and powerful while growing in our own sense of happiness and security. Many times in these relationships, the partners will experience a growth in self-confidence and motivation; a drive to fill their lives with the euphoric feeling that love can provide.
