Depression and anxiety is a huge problem that we are facing in our community and world today. Many people are depressed and may not even know it. What is depression? Depression is a mood disorder that causes one to feel lonely, sad, or even uninterested in the world around them. Extreme depression can lead to anxiety. Anxiety is a sense that something bad is always going to happen. When you have anxiety you are always worried about what could go wrong. With Anxiety attack you are in extreme worry mode and you begin to have a racing heart making you feel like you may have a heart attack but it’s just your Adrenaline that has skyrocketed. Being depressed can really take a toll on one’s body and mind. However there are ways that you can help yourself if you experience any depression or anxiety.

How You Can Help

It may sound strange but animals are a huge way to help with depression. Animals help keep you focused on them and not the problems. Having an animal also makes you extra responsible leaving little to no room to even worry about not having anyone around. Having an animal around is almost like having a child or baby. In fact many animals are pets are just like family to some and they really do consider them their babies. Petting an animal can actually improve your mood. I’ve seen in many different news programs that whenever a school or college suffer a huge loss sometimes the fire department will bring in a dog for them to pet or a puppy. That lets you know how fascinating it is to have a pet around when you are feeling low. Since depression is a mood disorder that causes you to be sad, it would be beneficial to have a pet around. One of the first things you can do is exercise. Exercising is so beneficial not only mentally but as well as physically. Your body naturally relieves stress when you exercise. When you exercise you are not thinking about what could possibly go wrong and this will allow you to lessen depression. Another great way to control your anxiety and depression is by challenging those negative thoughts! A lot of people who suffers from depression and anxiety don’t even realize that they don’t have to believe everything that they think. Your mind can play real tricks on you and make you believe something is true when it is not. You can challenge these negative thoughts by stopping them and redirecting your thought to a more positive one. Knowing that you can control and challenge your negative thoughts is a huge relief in itself. Truth is there are many different ways that you can relieve depression and anxiety but the first step is knowing that you have it. It’s okay and you are not alone.
