These are some of the "#" that run free on social media. Now we all learned from experience that the more hashtags you put, more people see the post. So naturally, people started putting random hashtags to posts that don't even have any relevance to what is in the picture, just so more people see the post and increase the likes. The problem, in my opinion, is when you start associating yourself with these disorders that are more serious than people realize. But in order to realize why you shouldn't associate yourself with these things, you have to understand them and how serious they are. So let's start explaining them.
This is the definition: "Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, images, and sensations (obsessions) and engage in behaviours or mental acts in response to these thoughts or obsessions. Often the person carries out the behaviours to reduce the impact or get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only brings temporary relief. Not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety. A person's level of OCD can be anywhere from mild to severe, but if left untreated, it can limit his or her ability to function at work or school or even to lead a comfortable existence at home or around others."
This is how OCD really works. There are a lot of people that are highly organized, but do not have OCD. Some people are so, because they want to satisfy a need for symmetry, but they do that willingly. What people with OCD experience is totally different, because they develop their behaviours out of a need. Their brain tells them that if they do not do that they will suffer a great consequence; they don't do it as a hobby. A person with OCD can even spend hours ironing their notes, because they were wrinkled. A person who is suffering from OCD can even develop behaviours that hurt them, like washing their hands until they bled.
You might wonder why? Why do I care if some random person puts tags like this? Well, I care because it seems that in order to attract attention to ourselves we have to associate ourselves with disorders and make them seem like it's something casual. It looks like we have OCD casually or we are casually suicidal. But what caught my attention when it comes to OCD is that I heard people saying things like "oh, it bugs my OCD." or somebody who is randomly cleaning the house has OCD.
It is not a joke to have a disorder of any kind, because it affects the way you view the world and how you interact with it. While there are persons that see it as an advantage, which is great, there are people who struggle to overcome these problems. Because at the end of the day it is an obsession, not a hobby. It is not a joke and it shouldn't be treated like it's something casual and fun, because, again, there are people that struggle with it.
We should be associating ourselves with the positive and constructive tag, not something that other people struggle with. We are already a society in which the average person spends around 3-5 hours a day on their phone, which is a lot. Let's try, at least, to become a society that is not ignorant towards things that other people struggle with and try to help not to mock.
We are connected more than ever, but let's make the best out of it and try to better ourselves.
