Panic Attacks, No Laughing Matter

Traditional Medication Versus Holistic Medicine

Thousands of traditional medicines are on today's marketalong with their hundreds of thousands of side effects.

Side effects you can possibly always count on with most medicines: NAUSEA, VOMITING, AND YES, DIARRHEA!

Taking medication to alleviate an illness or disease process is likely to cause these three side effects, in addition to other more serious side effects.

Herbs: the Foundation of Holistic Therapy

Few if any side effects come from taking holistic remedies.

One condition that came to my mind was the little-understood condition called Panic attacks. Panic attacks can come about through stress to the body. Many people are aware of the tensions in their life, but few understand what is happening when the stress has gone array.

Any person under stress can have a panic or anxiety attack and not know why. These attacks do not care if you are a male, a female, a child, or an adult, it makes no difference.

I had never had a panic attack, and I was clueless as to why I felt as I did. I had no answers, even though I was a nurse. This attack was over 20-years ago, and I never forgot how it felt.

A Dandy Panic Attack!

Panic attacks are FEAR

Usually this FEAR happens for unknown reasons.

On occasion you know your Fear!

I was getting over a bout of bronchitis. In the middle of the night, I experienced a wicked headache, took two Acetaminophen, and went back to bed. In about 30 minutes, my heart started to race.

The best way I can relate this feeling is sheer unknown, fear of my own home, and I needed to get outside as quickly as possible. It was the dead of winter.

A panic attack is a flight or fight feeling. I felt I wanted to run outside and not stop. That night the temperature was -6 degrees with a foot of snow. All I knew was that if I could get in the car and drive it through a brick wall somewhere, I would feel better. A person cannot usually identify the fear or from where it comes.

These feelings escalated, to the point that all I can say is, "I felt like I was in with a caged raging lion and I needed out!" I called my allergy doctor at three AM who, in turn, brushed off these feelings and said, "I will call in a prescription for Valium in the morning, now go to bed, you will be OK."

I did not feel OK. Far from OK. Valium? I did not want valium! Read up on the side effects of Valium; these side effects were enough to scare the daylights out of a person. That drug was not for me.

My primary doctor was a Holistic M.D about 45 minutes from home. I was able to go and see him first thing in the morning. I had to drive on the highway and was in a state of fear so bad all I could do was make about 5 miles, pull to the side of the road, relax and get on the highway again. I had to baby step it to the doctor's office. The highway was frightening to me, and this was something very different that I had never experienced.

When I finally arrived at the doctor's office, he gently smiled and said, "The stress in a person's life can build up to the point that a panic attack can occur. An illness can also cause stress to build up and cause a panic attack."

He took time out of his busy day to listen to me and not rush me out. He said he was going to give me a holistic remedy to take when I felt the signs of fear starting. I could dissolve these tiny white pellets under my tongue every two hours. I did not believe this would do anything, but he was so kind I did not say express my doubts. He made me an appointment in one week to see how I was doing.

I took this medicine before getting on the highway to go back home, and it took all side effects of panic away, it was terrific, and best of all this holistic remedy had no adverse side effects.

At any rate, the symptoms I had were a racing and irregular heart, feelings of fear, (of what I could not say,) shortness of breath, dizziness, and a bit of nausea all immediately disappeared. It was an incredible feeling and an incredible medication (remedy,) with immediate response.

This remedy eliminated all signs and symptoms of anxiety. It was so successful that I researched it and found that the doctor had given me Strychnine!

Holistic Medicine May Surprise You

This event is when I first learned the concept of remedies and how they work on the body. I returned to the doctor in a week to follow up, and I told him I found out I was taking.

I told him that he had prescribed for me a known poison. He smiled and said, "I see you are feeling and looking better, and you have been doing your homework."

He explained to me about holistic remedies and the purpose of the remedies. I needed this remedy off and on for about three weeks, and then more infrequently. I continued to have stress in nursing, but job stress is going to be with me no matter where I work, so I had to learn how to handle the stress and I never took a remedy for this stress.

Panic attacks can hit anyone at any time and anywhere due to anything.

Never again in the last 10-20 years did I suffer from panic attacks or anxiety. Remedies will last forever if kept in their bottle in a cool dark place. I always keep the treatment with me, but I have never needed to use it again. It is precautionary to carry it with me, much like an asthmatic who carries a rescue inhaler.

In my opinion, Holistic remedies are a valuable addition to a wellness plan and is a growing practice. Holistic treatments can complement traditional medications. However, never take a remedy unless you know what you are doing, sometimes a remedy is contraindicated with medications you may be taking, including over-the-counter medicines, so consult your holistic physician first. And, expect some negevity from the traditional medical community. Remember that everything in life has pros and cons and you must weigh each.

Make sure your doctor takes time with you.

When my allergy doctor said he would write me a prescription for Valium, I strongly felt he brushed me off. I never went back to see him again. I needed some answers, not a sedative.

If this doctor did not have time to speak with me, I could not make time in my day to see him, either. I feel that each individual must take action for their own health and well-being and not leave these issues solely up to the doctor.

Most medical doctors have no education in Holistic treatments. As one doctor told me, "Holistic practices are a whole different ball game, and I do not have the time, energy, or desire to learn a new way of treating my patients." At any rate, I never returned to that doctor.

I wanted a doctor who treated with traditional medicine because I believed in traditional medicine. At the same time, I believed in alternative practices as I was living proof. I experienced what one holistic remedy did to help me overcome panic attacks.

Another thing that I discovered was that if you take your holistic remedy as directed, you will have no side effects. You can overdose on remedies the same as any medication so it is vital to follow your doctor's orders.

I had looked for a traditional medical doctor, an MD, who went the extra mile for his patients by learning a new treatment regimen, Holistic Medicine and incorporated this with his traditional practice. I had found the best of both worlds.

I believe that all patients are entitled to be a team with their doctor. Working with the doctor is for the benefit of the patient's health and wellbeing. Realize that your doctor's time is valuable (so is yours), so never waste the doctor's time or yours. However, if you have questions and concerns make sure your doctor takes the time you need to talk.

You are a team with your doctor.

Make sure your doctor takes the time to listen to your concerns,

And give you answers. But, be dilligent with his time and yours.
