Most of us know how common depression is. People ranging from all ages can suffer with the mental disease — whether you're a 70-year-old women or a 22-year-old man. It doesn't matter what age you are, depression can randomly appear out of the blue, or a traumatic incident can cause its appearance. And depression is a real life ruiner — it's something that should be dealt with through mediation and talking with loved ones about.

Like how I said before, anyone at any age can get depression, even young women. In fact, it's very common in young women. Frankly, it's sometimes easy to spot someone with depression — even young girls. There are certain signs and aspects that can give them away. So, here are a couple of signs of depression in young women.

Sleepy/Fatigue

In general, depression can cause a person to be and constantly feel tired as though they haven't slept in days even though they got a full ten hours of sleep the previous night. The disease can really control the person's sleep, whether they sleep more than eight hours a night or possibly less.

She'll lack energy and won't want to do anything but stay home in bed all day.

Self-Loathing

From the signs of depression in young women, self-loath plays a large role. A young girl can come across as a selfless, even self-hating individual who constantly looks down upon herself for no apparent reason. The disease in her mind is getting the best of her, sucking out the positivity and leaving her with negative thoughts.

She'll rarely compliment herself or enjoy the sight of herself from the mirror's reflection — her head is flooded with negative thoughts.

Loss of Appetite

A young girl with depression can begin to appear much more frail and weak — losing pounds she didn't need to get rid of. This can occur from the lack of appetite she has.

Since depression occurs in the brain, it can also control other parts of your body, such as your appetite. Those who suffer with the mental disease almost never desire food. Since the depression is completely in charge of the mind, it doesn't allow the brain to send signals to the stomach, indicating that it's time to eat.

Also, young women can be so occupied with the depression that she tends to forget to eat.

Excessive Eating/Weight Gain

When it comes to depression, the person can either never have an appetite, or constantly have one. Yes, depression does affect the brain, which can also lead to the young girl to use food as a way to cope.

Many people have their own ways of coping with depression. Some use alcohol and drugs, while others eat to forget about it. And eating excessively can lead to weight gain — one among other signs of depression in young women.

Anxiety

Out of the signs of depression in young women, anxiety almost always comes with depression.

For a young girl, the depression occupying the back of her head can cause her to constantly feel anxious, as well. There doesn't have to be a specific reason for her to be worried, the depression triggers anxiety. And what's annoying about it is that the anxiety can show up whenever it wants — and it won't go away. Whether she's sitting in school or watching TV at home, it can creep up whenever it wants.

Suicide

Suicide is one of the scarier signs of depression in young women. Since the girl is dealing with self-loathing and strong negativity, thoughts of suicide come into play. Her self-hating can lead to multiple thoughts of ending her life and even attempting the acts.

If you know anyone, including yourself, who constantly thinks of suicide, get help. Suicide is never the answer in any situation, because you're worth more than that.

Excessive Crying

Depression is, without a doubt, an overwhelming mental disease. Since it's almost constantly in the mind, it can certainly overwhelm the person — the young girl, in this case.

A young woman with depression can possibly cry more often, because of the sheer struggle she's going through. Sometimes, it can be too much to handle and crying is another way for coping or letting it all out.

Losing Focus

Young women with depression can almost always lose focus during class — having conversations with people, reading a book, etc. Like I've been saying before, depression literally occupies the entire mind, and losing focus is just among the signs of depression in young women.

While sitting in class, a young girl struggling with depression will have trouble focusing in class, because her disease is bringing her thoughts elsewhere and not paying attention in class.

Inactive With Friends

Most people with depression don't tend to go out as often, especially young girls. From their anxiety, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc., they just don't have enough energy to go out and engage with friends. The energy is drained right out of them, leaving nothing, not even the motivation to see friends.

Aside from energy, just the self-loathing young women causes them to stay indoors and away from friends.

Appearance

Out of the signs of depression in young women, worsened appearance is a common one. Through lack of sleep, or just constantly feeling exhausted, her feelings can show up on her face. Such as under eye bags, pale skin, acne, discolored whites in the eyes, etc. Depression does bring stress and stress can definitely change a person's appearance — like continuously looking upset.

It's also possible for the young girl to look much older than her actual age because of her appearance while suffering with depression.
