What to Do When Your World Stops

Allowing Yourself to Heal

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed that you wished the world would stop just so you had time to catch up? Things aren't going your way, people and things are starting to disappoint and hurt you, and you just wish you had a moment to stop and breathe? As sad as it is, this happens a million times to millions of people. Anger, depression, fear, anxiety, stress—we all face it. It's normal to feel these things because we are human and we're all linked to each other by these emotions... but it's not normal to sweep them all under some dusty ass rug.

If I've done anything in my life, it would be just that—putting all of my emotions and problems aside just to deal with more emotions and problems, because apparently to some, that's what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to suck it up and get over it—and do it quickly. People like that will tell you that this world does not owe you anything, and you don't owe the world. Life goes on, and the world keeps spinning. Someone out there is having it waaay worse than you, so you should be strong and harbor all of your problems, because apparently there's bigger ones out there, and you really shouldn't wallow and gripe about it. While SOME of this is true, the rest is complete bullshit.

You mean to tell me that because I'm in this world, and someone out there is having it worse than me, I shouldn't be allowed to have my own world come crashing down? I'm not allowed to be affected by my own problems because someone else out there is dealing with heavier shit than I am?

Two people can’t have the same caliber of "worse," but you bypass the other, as if both of those people aren’t experiencing the same thing—which is the WORST of a situation?

Why can't bad situations just be terrible without them being in competition for "World’s Most Shittest Situation?"

If you're one of those people who says, "It could be worse," shut your mouth, shut it right fucking now.

I'm writing to tell you that you ARE allowed to feel your emotions, you ARE allowed to face these problems, you ARE allowed to be human and release them—because you're not a robot who can be upgraded a thousand times over after being banged up.

When will people finally understand that there are actual living and breathing organisms on this earth and stop being consumed by this horrid virtual reality that social media has unleashed on us? It’s brainwashing us to be uncaring and insensitive towards things and people. In their eyes, people can’t want help without wanting attention first, so they don’t even bother to offer it.

It’s like you’re barely breathing as it is, and someone comes along and smothers you... you never had a chance in the first place. And when you’re denied help or a chance to heal yourself, that’s when aaall the little bottles appear for you to stuff your problems into them.

And yes, as fucked up as it is, the harsh reality is this: The world will never stop for you. Life goes on, and it'll keep going. Things and people can change at a rate so fast you never thought possible. Your world could flip in the blink of an eye.

The relief: You can find the time to heal and keep yourself from spinning out of control in a world that's constantly changing. It won't be easy... but you'll keep breathing and you WILL be okay in the end. Adapting and adjusting can be difficult, but not impossible. Each step to progress can be small or big... it doesn’t matter as long as you’re progressing. But if there’s ever a time where you feel like you’re not making any progress in life—stop and evaluate. It’s okay to stop your world for a moment and take a breath while others keep going. It’s alright... you’ve always been allowed to do so. You’re allowed to work on you because like other things in the world, you’re important too.
