The Twelve Step Approach: Outdated or needed now more than ever
This post is inspired by a few recent posts we have seen attacking Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve step groups as outdated and ineffective. While the Beehive Recovery Blog does not promote one particular route to recovery as the only means to achieve sobriety, these posts prompted us to write some educational things about AA, as it has been a core part of many people’s path to happiness and freedom from drugs and alcohol (including most of our blog contributors). Everyone’s journey is different and there are many ways to achieve sobriety. Beehive Recovery Blog hopes to educate as many people as possible on the subject of addiction. This includes providing education in trends of addiction, recovery stories, treatment options and resources, as well as dispelling misconceptions.

A Whole New Ball Game: Pressed “Prescription” Pills
Author foreword I got sober nearly 5 years ago. At this time pills were considered a “safe” option in terms of risk of overdose. You knew what you were getting. You bought Xanax, you knew you were getting Xanax. You bought oxycodone, that what you were getting. It was a miserable life of addiction, but things were slightly safer. The risk of overdose was always looming, but to a smaller degree. I came across a few pressed pills near the end of my using days, and they were immediately identifiable as fake. Chalky, misshaped, etc.

Establishing Boundaries
Setting boundaries with someone struggling with addiction can be challenging, but it's essential for both your well-being and theirs. Many alcoholics or addicts only achieve sobriety when their loved ones set hard boundaries and stop enabling. Most of the staff at Tennessee Detox Center are in recovery and can attest to the impact boundaries played on their decision to finally accept help. Here are some suggestions for establishing healthy boundaries:
